The Maldives-stunning beauty of turquoise lagoons and pristine beaches is simply unparalleled. The Republic of Maldives is a nation in the Indian subcontinent of Asia, located in the Indian Ocean. It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India. The Maldives archipelago consists of 26 natural coral atolls, a chain of islands formed from the crowns of a submerged ancient volcanic mountain range that stretch from Ihavandhippolhu atoll in the north to Addu atoll in the south.
The country is home to 300,000 people who live on 192 islands. Most of the remaining islands have been left untouched to allow the ecosystem to flourish. About 100 islands have been turned into tourist hubs that form the backbone of the Maldivian economy.
The natives call them “Dhivehi Raajje”, which means “land of the Dhivehi people”.
